“Hear My Mind” is the debut single of independent artist, Annabelle Maginnis. Being solitary is a rarity in Los Angeles. Yet one day, when Annabelle was alone, the pre- and chorus for “Hear my Mind” struck her. She had a session with Teddy Roxpin and Ben "Smiley" Silverstein of The Main Squeeze, the next day in which the troop actualized the idea. Annabelle sang as Smiley’s fingers found their tasteful place on the keys. Teddy shaped a slappy groove and built moments of needed strain. Annabelle and Teddy hashed out the composition together and laid down some playful percussive elements. They sat with Delwin Campbell of the project CAPYAC who finalized the mix.
Kevin Bronson of Buzzbands.la reviewed Annabelle’s project, MetronOhm, noting, “Maginnis’ seductive but not overplayed vocals largely take center stage. . .” (Bronson 2018).
“Hear My Mind” is the first release of Annabelle’s project, Free Debris, to be on the lookout for. In addition to this project, Annabelle can be caught singing, songwriting, playing mandolin and violin with the band, MetronOhm. She has played venues including The El Rey, The Echo, and Bootleg Theater. She performs with other artists including Lauren Ruth Ward, Holy Wars, def.sound, TwoLips, Spare Parts for Broken Hearts and more.
LA-based Teddy Roxpin, originally hailing from Boston, MA, is a producer and DJ who has produced songs for Mac Miller, Future, Logic, Michael Christmas, and Hoodie Allen. While staying true to his hip hop roots, Roxpin’s career also spans pop and R&B. His current projects include Underwater Chess Club with longtime collaborator Ricky Bakken, as well as an upcoming EP with the newcomer Zel.
Smiley is an LA based keyboard player/producer and one of the founding members of the nationally touring rock/soul band, The Main Squeeze. Smiley (Smilehighmusic) moved to Los Angeles in 2016 and immediately started to collaborate with many artists as a producer/songwriter in addition to touring the country with the Squeeze.
Check out “Hear my Mind” to celebrate yourself whether alone, with your crew or surrounded.
lyrics
There’s something that I’d like to say
The word’s on the tip of my tongue.
But if I’m told that I should stay
You know I’m gonna get up and run.
I feel alive when I can
Just hear my mind for a second
I feel alive when I can
Just hear my mind for a second
Ooooh
I feel alive when I can
Just hear my mind for a second
I feel alive when I can
Just hear my mind for a second
My thoughts are skipping stones I throw
Just to see how far they can go
Condensation pulls to clouds
And falls back down as glimmering snow
I feel alive when I can
Just hear my mind for a second
I feel alive when I can
Just hear my mind for a second
Ooooh
I feel alive when I can
Just hear my mind for a second
I feel alive when I can
Just hear my mind for a second
When all that I know
Is getting too close
And everything feels way too big and too loud
Wherever I go
I already know
May need the time and the space to step out
So I can be alone. . .
Ooooh
I feel alive when I can
Just hear my mind for a second
I feel alive when I can
Just hear my mind for a second
